Academic Excellence
Richard Huish College is a lively, friendly college which offers a wide range of academic courses. The College is one of the major providers of A/AS levels in the South West of England. Our staff are well qualified and Richard Huish has an excellent reputation for its external examination results and enrichment provision. The A/AS level results in Summer 2007/08 ensured that the College was ranked fourth among all sixth form colleges in England.
We are a centre of academic excellence with over 1,700 students taking three or four AS/A2 levels, Vocational A Levels, NVQs or professional qualifications from a range of over 50 subjects available. The College has an outstanding academic and vocational reputation and a friendly yet purposeful atmosphere (ofsted 2004), and demonstrates a strong commitment to meeting the educational and holistic needs of its students (Ofsted 2007), attracting and retaining the very best staff to safeguard its position at the top of the results tables published each year.
Our 2004 Ofsted inspection report accurately captured our approach to our work, with comments such as: ‘Students’ achievements at Richard Huish College are outstanding. Throughout the College there is a powerful focus to raise standards and ensure that all students maximise their potential. Students enjoy their studies and take pride in a culture that celebrates success and values individuals.’
In 2007/08 the College pass rate for AS/A2 levels was 99% and all students qualified for university places. Because of its size and reputation for academic excellence, Richard Huish College has established excellent relationships with universities throughout the country, especially Oxford and Cambridge, Bristol (local), Exeter (local), Edinburgh, Durham, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham and London.
